TIS strives for the best learning experience for the students. In the first month of this school year, we have successfully implemented the unique 50-50 program to integrate advantages of both Canadian curriculum and the Chinese curriculum.
Many students are not familiar with the Canadian learning environment in their past learning experience, and language becomes their critical concern in adapting into our system. The Canadian teachers will adapt their program for these students but will continually teach the Alberta level of education to all the students. Also, from grade 1 to 8, we have the carefully designed High Frequency Word lists for each grade to help them practice at home. It is very important that parents take every opportunity for their children to learn English at home (watch English speaking channels on TV, read English books, etc.)
We have also successfully implemented clubs, extra-curricular activities for our students to expand their learning opportunities at our school. We also offer cooperative courses with professional personnel, for example, the golf course, sailing course, and the piano courses.
The school library has set up a hi-tech multi-media learning center full of fun! Mr. Tre Ranier, the director of the school library and media centre, has excellent experience at creating a modern learning environment for the students. He has started a program called “Media Explosion”. He will also support learning in classrooms by bringing in modern technology to daily teaching. The students will also have lots of fun from our Dress Down Days, Christmas and other festivals and celebrations.
We hope the 2014-2015 school year will be a great start of an enjoyable life-long learning experience for our students.
